You might be surprised at the number of things you never knew you could put in your washing machine. And while the stuffed animals your kids love so much can be washed in your washing machine, you still need a rug cleaning service in Las Vegas because you can’t just toss your Oriental rug in the washing machine. But the rug you have in your bathroom, it is fine to toss that in your washing machine because even if somehow it does become damaged, you can just pick up another one at Walmart for 20 bucks.

If you are interested, here are a few items that can be washed in your washing machine. A few of these just might surprise you.

Mop Heads

You might want to check the label first, but most mop heads can be removed and washed in the washing machine. This means your mop heads last longer, which will save you money. Not only that, by keeping your mop head clean, your hardwood and tile floors will be cleaner as well.

Oven Mitts

Remember when you took that casserole out of the oven and it splashed all over your oven mitts? Well, that is no longer a concern because is it quite safe to wash those oven mitts in your washing machine. Imagine how it feels to display oven mitts that aren’t stained with dried cheese and cream of mushroom soup. Some oven mitts get so bad they stick to the dishes you are pulling from the oven, which creates even more of a mess.

Baseball Caps

While you don’t want to wash that baseball cap autographed by Ken Griffey Jr., it is quite alright to wash your other baseball caps in the washing machine. Just make sure you use the short cycle using cold water. When you are done, simply reshape the cap and let it air dry.

Pillows

It is quite safe to wash pillows in warm water on the gentle cycle. To make sure you get all of the soap out, you might want to double rinse and spin. Dry your pillows on low heat and throw in a few dryer balls to ensure fluffiness.

Plastic Shower Curtains

You can wash that moldy, soap-scummed plastic shower curtain in the washing machine. You will be glad you did. And since it is plastic, it will have to be hung out to be dried, don’t use your clothes dryer.

Yoga Mat

Even if the instructions on your yoga mat advises against machine washing, you probably still can. Just wash it on the delicate cycle and dry it on low heat.

Reusable Grocery Bags

The canvas grocery bags you use come in contact with all sorts of dirty surfaces including the trunk of your car, your kitchen counter and the shopping cart. It is also not uncommon for the items you pack in them to leak or otherwise spill, leaving a big, sticky mess. So it is a good idea to give them a good washing in your washing machine and pop them in the dryer after.
